What I’ve Been Listening To #1 (2/3/18)
In no particular order:
I couldn't fit whole albums on either list so I just picked one song from the parts where I talk about listening to an whole album :/
What I've Been Listening To #1 (Apple Music)
What I've Been Listening To #1 (Spotify)
"Who's Crying Now" - Journey
This is epic. Period. It reminds me of my boy, Stephen. He would def sing this lol. It helps my daydreams, which I shouldn't be doing too much. I see like He-Man type animation lol. Makes me think of 80's cartoon intros and those very cool metal videos that had the crazy animation. Those instruments working in unison and the vocals. A lovely combo. That guitar solo. The instruments just take full control towards the end and it works out so well. Good shit, Journey. Even though you've been fire long before I was born lol.
"Where Are We Going" - Marvin Gaye
This inspires so many things. Such a beautiful sound, I added it to my morning playlist. Helps with getting up and getting out. If you heading to work you gotta add this to your morning ritual. This track is proof how so many things can change yet stay the same. Forever missed. Rest in Power, Mr. Gaye. "Right On."
"Today" - Trippie Redd & UnoTheActivist
I told my producer brother to sample the "Kars4Kids" jingle. Lol. The idea came from listening to The Joe Budden Podcast and somehow that jingle came up. So I hit my brother like, "Man, everybody knows that song. Make something cool out of it." I don't think he cared much lol but he said this kinda sounds like it. Surprisingly I loved it.
"Uppercuts" - Terror Reid
My brother sent me this one, he must be aware of my love for lyrical miracle rap. I think he might share that with me. This is a good looney track. Very animated.
"Best Me" - Sylvan LaCue
I heard the remix first, the one with Saba. Saba verse was pure flames. But then the album dropped. I really like the concept of it. I haven't fully listened to it but this dude is really cool and relatable. With a song title like this and verses that are so down to earth, how can you not like this? Good stuff, Sylvan.
"No patience, but I think I think too much (still)
I think I lack confidence (still)
I think I want prominence, dominance good logic & common sense
But that starts with me"
"Groove Theory" - Groove Theory
Classic. Ive' been listening to this in pieces lol Apple Music keeps suggesting parts. I truly love this piece of work. It inspires me regularly. If you remember anything about me remember how much I love Groove Theory. In my time of rap not hitting me as hard this shines like a diamond in my library. Never fails to give me an idea or lift a mood.
Songs I've been spamming:
"10 Minute High"
"Tell Me"
"Hello It's Me"
"Didja Know"
"Anita (Remix) [feat. T-Pain] - Smino
SoundCloud
Apple Music
Love this.
"Melting Amethyst" - AKTHESAVIOR
Always gonna love the material that come from The Underachievers
"Waltz for Debby" (Alternate Take) - Bill Evans
Lately, Jazz has been hitting me way more than anything else. More enjoyable and relaxing as of late.
I feel like you can learn a lot about roles of instruments by listening to this and even like, learn how to use your voice like it's an instrument when recording. More so than listening to anything else but that's just me.
"Elenor Rigby" - Vince Guaraldi Quartet
This got me through many drawings. I love this like it was a person lol. It sort of sounds like the Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden theme from Kingdom Hearts. Like, a teeny bit. But this song is on constant repeat. You should try it if you have busy work to do or something like that. Or even just chilling. I'm unsure if a majority of my friends will be down to chill and listen to jazz lol let me know.
"No One Eve Really Dies" - N.E.R.D
YO! I REALLY LOVE THIS WHOLE ALBUM!
IT GAVE ME SOME LIT IDEAS, SOME AMAZING SOUNDS TO ENJOY, ETC ETC
LISTEN TO IT RIGHT NOW! THANK YOU! #MadEthnicRightNow"

"Rollinem 7's" (This especially goes hard)
"Kites" (Kendrick, dawgs. "Kites on my radar!")
"No Dope On Sunday's" - Cyhi The Prynce
Cyhi is dope. That's it lol. I love bars, he delivers those. Those beats are fire. This is so obviously good to me I don't know what to say. Solid. Just solid. If anything is gonna inspire bars out of you it'll be this lol I promise you. I haven't enjoyed verses this much in a while, man. In my struggles of most rap losing me I was playing this along with all my Jazz. Just this. PLUS it has my favorite ScHoolBoy verse which reminds me of my fake gangsta brother lol probably why I love that song?

"Tadow" - Masego & FKJ
We've been through this. Enjoy it again. Repeat friendly.
"Scary Hours EP" (God's Plan & Diplomatic Immunity) - Drake
"I hold back, sometimes I won't/
I feel good, sometimes I don't/"
That's what we do with Drake bars, right? Lol quote them and use them for captions and etc. I don't relate to telling women I love my mother and bed more than them lol savage. But that, that simple little part I relate to it. Something for everybody? It cannot be overstated how much I love bars and Drake delivered those on that Diplomatic Immunity.
Freaks and Geeks - Childish Gambino
This re-release of the "Be Alone EP" is great. I'm forever grateful for Tanisha for showing me this song so many years ago. It led to me being a big fan of Mr. Glover. Camp, Royalty, Because The Internet, Culdesac, Awaken My Love. He doesn't disappoint. His early stuff is very cool too there's a lot of growth to be seen. This track though, this is the one that probably grabbed most of us. That beat hard af.
"Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" - Will Smith
Son. If you ever wanna make me laugh, do the Will Smith laugh. The "Ha-Ha!" LOL God tier ad-lib, man. This dance is also forever fire. My mother copped this when I was small and those car rides were super lit. Audio Dopamine.
"Shaft (Music From the Soundtrack) - Isaac Hayes
So. This post is super long and eventually has to end. I think this a fitting place to stop. The Shaft theme was made for inner city commutes. No, really. Look at the intro to Shaft, he's literally commuting to work. But the track surpassed that. It's suitable for almost every situation. You're probably thinking it's the only good song on the album. Nah, B. THE WHOLE THING GOES! Bumpy's Lament was sampled in a few things, I think Dre's "Xxplosive" is the most known one.
But man, This makes me miss isaac Hayes so much. A wonderful enjoyable piece of music. I had a 2 hour commute and this held me down lol. Great tracks. We should all watch Shaft more often. Rest In Power, Mr. Hayes.

"Freek'n You" - Jodeci
LOL. Look, I know. I like Jodeci, man. Don't judge me. But the end part is also dumb funny lol they really wanna freak shorty out. "Every freek'n night and every freek'n day/ I wanna freak you, baby in every freek'n way/" Like, relax my man lol. Jokes aside, still fire.
Xxplosive (feat. Hittman, Six-Two, Nate Dogg & Kurupt) - Dr. Dre
The "Bumpy Laments" sample I was talking about. Don't let anybody tell you Kurupt isn't an elite MC. Rest In Power, Nate Dogg.
Thanks for looking at my very long list of the things I've been listening to lately. I'm grateful. Even if you didn't make it this far lol. Love to you.
Later.
